Nerds Talk Crisis
What role does social media play in shaping people’s political opinions?
“Rather than bombing Syria as a response to Paris attacks, our political leaders should try and stop the flow of funding to ISIS.” - Tweet by James Nelville (@jamesnelville)
Through Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter posts, there’s always something that’s relevant to the Syrian refuges. These never ending heartbreaking stories have taken over the social media world. Discussions, thoughts and debates along with personal opinions. Everyones view on the topic differs from one person to another.
According to World Vision more than 700,000 Syrian refugees and other migrants risked their lives this year, to travel to Europe. Although, due to different opinions on social media there has been an increase in debates about the actions that should be taken towards the Syrian refuges.
The careless and inhumane emotions shown towards the Syrian refuges are startling. The media portrays them as terrorists and murderers when in fact they’re just searching for a place, a home to get away from such allegations. Or is that just what my media outlets have lead me to believe? 700,000 people this year alone have not only risked their lives but the lives of their children in search of a home. Why should we have the right to turn our backs at them? Why should they suffer at the hands of ruthful dictators and cruel politicians? Everyone deserves to seek asylum, everyone deserves a safe home.
